The Distinctly, Deliciously European campaign has partnered with the Italian Chamber of Commerce of Ontario to bring two of Europe’s most celebrated products, Grana Padano PDO cheese and Prosciutto di Parma PDO, to tables across the province. Through this partnership, participating restaurants are introducing diners to the quality, heritage and craftmanship behind each product, while connecting European culinary traditions to Ontario’s own vibrant food scene.
This October, 15 restaurants across Ontario are taking part, each showcasing these iconic ingredients in a selection of dishes. Look for Grana Padano PDO cheese and Prosciutto di Parma PDO woven into dishes throughout the month, from risottos and handmade pastas to beautifully composed cheese and charcuterie boards.
Celebrating European Culinary Heritage
Europe’s food culture is built on the relationship between people, place and time. Grana Padano and Prosciutto di Parma both carry the PDO – European Union’s Protected Designation of Origin certification system – that guarantees high quality, authenticity and traceability.
The Products
Grana Padano is made in the Po River Valley in Northern Italy. After 9 months of aging, each wheel is carefully tested for appearance, aroma and texture. Aged from 9 to over 24 months, it develops a progressively more intense flavour. Grana Padano is naturally lactose free and rich in proteins, vitamins, and mineral salts. It is excellent for cooking, snacking, on a cheese board, or grated into pasta or soup.
Prosciutto di Parma is produced in Parma, Italy. The aging process creates variation in flavour profiles and textures, from mild and nutty to mature and full-flavoured. Prosciutto di Parma is 100% natural, containing no additives, preservatives, or hormones. It’s a great addition to pizza, salads, sandwiches and more.
